Therapy
MY APPROACH
I offer a focused and confidential space where you can explore your experiences with a skilled and experienced professional. You will be listened to and understood without judgement, and with your best interests at heart. We move towards your goals, whether they be healing, understanding, growth, change or something in-between.
ABOUT YOU
Central to my practice is the understanding that no one is broken. Your struggle, longing or 'symptoms' are signs that something needs attention, and your crises are opportunities for transformation.
You may feel like you’re barely holding it together, confused, or disconnected and numb. You could have lost something or someone important to you, find yourself trying to process something overwhelming or have an important decision to make. Maybe things are going okay - or even great - on the surface but you have a dissatisfaction that’s been niggling for some time.
Whatever you bring, together we unravel your story, your signs, and explore opportunities to uncover a balanced, connected and enlivened way forward.
HOW I WORK
I draw on a variety of models and the way we work may evolve over time. The main models I work with are psychodynamic, Jungian, humanistic, neuro-biological, Gestalt, family systems and transpersonal. This means that in addition to traditional talking therapy, I may suggest other techniques such as visualisation, body-awareness, breathwork, dream and imaginal work, meditation and other creative exercises to deepen your process. If it helps you I share the theory for my suggestions, but really it’s the experience that makes the difference. Ultimately, the compassion, curiosity and ways of connecting with your intuition and inner resources that I offer are things that you learn to do for yourself.
The trust and safety that we build in our relationship, the research shows, is the strongest indicator that your therapy will be successful, so I am always tending to this and may ask you how we’re doing from time-to-time so we can tend to it together.
HOW DOES A WEEKLY SESSION LOOK?
In weekly sessions, you decide what you want to focus on and I listen. Each session may be different. Sometimes you may need to unload and be heard. Other times you may appreciate some reflections or suggestions. I may gently challenge, always with the intention to help you connect more deeply with yourself and move towards your goals.
Although every therapy is unique, some things you may wish to explore could be:
What is happening for you in the here and now
What you want for the future
Challenges in your relationships
Specific experiences you want to make some meaning out of or heal from
How relationships and events in your personal history may have shaped the way you think, feel and act today
Connecting with and processing emotions in a compassionate and safe space
Background narratives that could be a strength or a hinderance for your life and goals
How your nervous system might be impacting you and how to soothe it
Using your dreams, imaginative or creative tools to connect with things that evade conversational language
Your experience and identity in the wider systems that we are a part of - ecologically, spiritually, socially
